Today we’re talking Meal Kit Delivery because it seems to be all the rage these days! Whether you’re a working mom and don’t have time to grocery shop or a college kid tired of ramen noodles, meal kit delivery is for everyone. Personally, I live in an apartment with my sister and absolutely LOVE to cook but find myself wasting good produce because it’s gone bad or just repeating boring recipes. Now, I will point out that Green Chef did give me a week of meals for this blog post, but that in no way detracts me from giving y’all my honest feedback about my real experience with Green Chef!
Let’s start by educating ourselves, shall we?
What is Green Chef? They are a meal kit delivery service that provides the consumer (you) with all the ingredients pre-portioned out along with the recipe and a step-by-step guide on how to cook them!
Why Green Chef over the competitors? It starts from the ground up, and Green Chef only sources wholesome ingredients. Meaning they are GMO Free, USDA Certified Organic, Sustainable & Traceable, and are the first to offer 3 Certified Gluten-Free options!
Speaking of Gluten-Free… They’re the first to receive Gluten-Free certification through the Gluten Intolerance Group’s Gluten-Free Food Service (GFFS) program. While many food and beverage products claim to be gluten-free, very few companies invest in gluten-free authentication.
What do they give me? Everything but the kitchen sink (pun intended). They pre-portion the ingredients so nothing goes to waste, a recyclable box that all the food comes in, and print-outs of the recipes with step-by-step guides on how to cook them!
Why does “Organic” matter? Straight from greenchef.com “Organic ingredients have no GMOs, synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, irradiation, human sewage sludge, antibiotics, growth hormones, or steroids. Organic farming also supports healthier ecosystems by promoting biodiversity, protecting wildlife, and conserving water and soil.”
Now that we know why we’re doing this, let’s dive into the details!
You can choose from a variety of plans depending on your dietary restrictions. Personally, I eat Paleo a good chunk of the time so of course wanted to try the meals they suggest! This week, the 3 meals provided were Chicken Pumpkin Stew, Steak & Turnips Latkes, and Greek Shrimp. All of which looked and sounded amazing, but my biggest concern was if I could re-create these meals and make them as tasty as they sounded.
When diving into creating these meals, I loved how easy they made it for me. Every label was color coordinated so I knew exactly what ingredients I was working with. At the top of the recipe card, it told me what staple kitchen items I would need (pots, pans, utensils, etc.) along with highlighting key words throughout to make sure I didn’t miss a thing!
Truly, the best part about these recipes was how simple but delicious they were! I would have never on my own gone out and bought half of these ingredients to re-create the meals nor would I have ever used the ingredients in their entirety because I’m just one human who has no need for an entire bottle of miso broth.
For you “non-chefs” out there, I personally thought that the recipes did range in difficulty but all-in-all, each one was extremely do-able and turned out pretty legit. Like too legit. Like too legit to quit.
Some of you may be wondering about portion sizes. Green Chef has options for a 2-person plan or 4-person plan (family style) and I of course went for the first option because I live with my sister and found that the portion sizes we’re perfect! Some nights, I even cooked for myself and had leftovers for lunch the next day.
I’m a girl who likes to eat and doesn’t practice patience all that often. It took the stress out of figuring out what to do for dinner and since they only took 30-40 minutes to make, I was more inclined to cook because I knew it’d be nice and quick!
Final Thoughts
Overall I seriously loved my experience with Green Chef. Working with them as a brand was a blast and in general, I’m a huge advocate for organic, wholesome ingredients. It’s a reminder to ask yourself that although you think you’re eating healthy meals, where is your food coming from?
It’s all about education and making food fun. That’s exactly what Green Chef did for me. Although I love to cook, I wouldn’t call myself a chef. Although I’m a nutritionist, there is still so much more to learn. This is a brand that has done the research and takes out the BS to leave you with the proper tools to succeed and fuel your body the right way!
Best news of all? They’ve given me a discount code for $40 off your first box of meals! All you need to do is follow this link and sign up!
