If you’re looking for a spot to eat great food and satisfy your whimsical side, Punch Bowl Social (PBS) is the place to be. Their location in The Domain is ideal for those nights where you’re looking to get out with your buddies but want to avoid some of the craziness of Downtown Austin.
Something that I’m always conscious about when I’m going out ANYWHERE is the nutrition factor of their menu. Although I love a great juicy burger and fries as much as the next girl, it’s also nice being able to go out and enjoy lighter menu option.
From fried chicken and waffles to root vegetable hash, there is something for everyone on the menu. Not only that, they offer fresh squeezed juices! So even if you do end up splurging a little in the food department, that juice can help you get in any missed veggies.
Getting together with friends can seem like an impossible task sometimes with different schedules to please and making (or missing) reservations with large groups, but PBS eliminates almost all doubts. They have 3 different rooms, each serving a purpose (and scratch made biscuits). The first, is their sit down dining area that’s a little more quiet making it a perfect spot to eat, sip, and chat with your crew. The second room is where the real fun starts to go down with a full bar, bowling, and more casual seating. Their last space is where they keep most of their games and toys like fuze-ball, shuffle board, arcade games, and of course a karaoke room. All different, but all serve a full menu so you can literally take the party wherever you go.
I opted for the lighter menu options this time around and ordered the Jessica Rabbit juice (carrot, ginger, apple) to start and the Farmers Salad with seared Ahi Tuna. Holy cow, first of all I absolutely love anything with ginger in it and this juice seriously hit the spot… especially after a long night of drinking. The Farmers Salad although simple, was packed with flavor and I loved the addition of their pickled onions and roasted tomatoes. The tuna was seared to perfection and added the exact amount of protein to make it a filling and satisfying meal.
What goes better with a scrumptious meal then a side of bowling? Absolutely nothing. Heading over to the lanes, I had my game face on and was ready to take home the gold but kind of forgot that I seriously suck at bowling and within the first 5 minutes knew this wasn’t going to end well. In my book the way I performed was equivalent to getting a participation ribbon but it’s not always about winning right? At least I had a mimosa in hand.
These days, I feel like every social event involves booze and pizza, and that’s not always a bad thing, but it’s also nice to be able to have a great time while sticking to a nutritious meal. PBS makes it easy to keep you from having FOMO and keeps your friends from questioning that decision to order your yummy salad.
