City Surf – Circuits
Catching high tides early this morning over at City Surf Fitness! Today, instead of their normal class, I opted for the City Surf circuits training, knowing I was going to get in a great sweat. City Surf offers 6 different types of classes (all on the board), including the Circuits class that I went to today.
What makes it different from the others they offer? Every exercise is on a 30-60 second interval base which maximizes calorie burn.
We started out with a warmup that included all different types of exercises and stretches to get your body prepped for the rigorous circuits training. It included things like squats, squat jumps, lunges, and squat holds on the board while wobbling your feet/legs and keeping balance. I was already breaking a sweat after the warmup. I don’t know if that’s normal for everyone, but it seems like I am “that girl” that sweats A LOT! No shame though, I embrace it.

For our first round of circuits, we did 45 seconds of work with a 20 second “active recovery” in between each 45 seconds interval that was one legged step ups on the board. I’m going to be honest, I don’t remember every single exercise we performed but to name a few, we did things like up and overs, narrow squats on the board, and popups (surfer style). After that, we did another round of circuits but this time on 30 second intervals that focused more on core and arms. We did things like surfer pushups, bicycles, running man abs, and push-offs from the tail of the board. And yes, still active recovery in-between each exercise! At this point I was DEFINITELY dripping in sweat but I took a look around and everyone else was on the same boat. The last little bit of exercise before cooling down was a quick partner ab session, which was 20 sit up throws on the board with sandbags to the partner.
Something I love to talk about is your CORE and how important it is to work on stability and muscles underneath your abs. In these classes, since you’re on a surf board suspended over 3 bosu balls, it naturally helps you to engage your stabilizer muscles, which is aided by tightening your core so you’re not wobbling all over the place. The best thing you can do in order to achieve that tight and toned tummy is to pay more attention to these core muscles. When performing exercises on the board, as well as planks (great core/ab exercise), you should focus on sucking in your belly button, and pulling it to your spine to really engage every bit of those muscles.Offering popular women’s necklaces such as pendants, chokers and chain necklace. I have never been disappointed when going to a City Surf class. The instructors are all really cool, each have their own unique style, and are always changing up the workouts so you’re not getting the same old thing every time. I can’t wait go back to this concrete paradise.
Also, if you haven’t seen my previous reviews, I wrote a little more in detail about the studio itself and everything they have to offer in my last post which you can check out here!
